Weekly Blog Posts and Post 2 (Aggregation)

Each student is required to post to his or her blog at least once a week. A total of 15 posts are required over the course of the semester, although you can post as much as you want. Some posts will be assigned (i.e., a news article, a photo essay, an audio clip, or video) and they must contain the required elements. Some blog posts will be “free choice” and students can select a format that is best suited for the content of the posts. Weekly blog posts are due by 8:00 p.m. each Saturday. Each post will be graded on content and execution. Each post must be substantive and free of errors.

Each post will be assessed on:

  • Compelling, descriptive headline that uses keywords
  • Post content provides useful information to the reader
  • Post is clear, organized, and free of spelling or grammatical errors
  • Proper use of hyperlinks
  • Five appropriate keyword tags
  • Assigned posts meet specific requirements

This Week – Post 2: Aggregation

News aggregation is a term used to describe human or computer generated collection and republishing of online information.

-Active way for reporters to do research on a subject. Learn what others are writing about and saying then share it.
-Provides a service to your audience. You do the work of finding and organizing the best information on your topic.
-Links out from your publication to others (which helps generate authority and traffic for your publication).

Post requirements:
-Write a post that pulls together and organizes online information that is useful for your reader.
-Your post should include at least 5 links.
-Upload a photo to add some artwork to the post. Give photo credit in the caption.

Post will be graded on:
-Compelling, descriptive headline that uses keywords
-Content provides useful information to the reader.
-Well written, clear, organized, and free of spelling or grammatical errors.
-Proper use and formatting of hyperlinks
-Five keyword tags

About Nick DiUlio

My name is Nick DiUlio, a freelance writer and editor from New Jersey. I have been passionate about the craft of writing since I was old enough to spell, and this love has led to a successful career in journalism and creative nonfiction. As a freelancer, I have covered a wide range of topics and personalities, as my published work has focused on everything from profiles of artists and important political figures to hard-news stories with both national and local appeal; from restaurant and beverage reviews to tips on fashion and finance; from health and wellness pieces to celebrity Q&A’s. My work has appeared in several local, regional and national publications—both in print and online—including Philadelphia Magazine, Slate.com, Miller-McCune, New Jersey Monthly, Eating Well, and Delaware Today. Additionally, I am the South Jersey Bureau Chief for New Jersey Monthly and an adjunct journalism professor at Rowan University. To be sure, the broadness of my body of work seems only to be matched by my boundless interest in almost every subject imaginable (except Warren Zevon). Check out some of my most recently published work here.
